The VESSEL is a 150 foot tall art structure designed by Thomas Heatherwick. It is made of steel and copper and is composed of 154 staircases with 80 viewing platforms. As it is new, timed free tickets are required unless you are willing to wait in a pretty long line to climb and to view it from within. It is next to the newest high end mall in NYC. There is an elevator, but is currently only to be used by people with physical ailments that would prevent them from enjoying it otherwise.
It is located at the northern end of the High Line.
NOTE: since I posted this I believe access has been closed. Obviously you can still view it, but I don't think you can walk on it any longer.
